From country teenagers and city yuppies, to tense confrontations and unconditional love, together with TranScreen we showcase a collection of Dutch shorts, including Q&A’s with the makers.

Thrilled to work together with TranScreen for the fifth year in a row, we present a collection of Dutch shorts. The five films give insight into the lives of trans and gender non-conforming people navigating identity, family, and the complexities of existing in today’s world. From the absurdity of an existential crisis caused by a malfunctioning electric bike to the reality of the current state of trans healthcare in the Netherlands, the program blends fiction and documentary to offer a vivid, diverse snapshot of lived experiences.

Join us at Moira to watch the films and stay for a Q&A with the makers!

Genoeg — Freddie Lian (Netherlands, 6 min)

An uncertain genderqueer person, Jae, wants to make their mother proud by including her in their established life. When their mom continues to keep their contact superficial, Jae tries to initiate a confrontation.

On Hold — Prins de Vos (Netherlands, 10 mins)

In the Netherlands, the average waiting time for an academic gender team is three years. On Hold tells the stories of four individuals whose lives are currently ‘on hold.’

Onvoorwaardelijk — Cynthia Gerritsen – de Heer (Netherlands, 20 mins)

The film is about Noa, a 14-year-old trans girl. It is not a story about trauma or pain, but about what a transition can be like if the parents decide to support their child unconditionally.

Kutyuppen — Thorn de Vries (Netherlands, 6 min)

When a man, typical yup, is unable to unlock his electric bike, something in him snaps. Can he exist outside of his carefully curated image?

Something about Alex (Anders) — Reinout Hellenthal (Netherlands, 19 min)

Alex, a troubled and isolated 14-year-old, finds a true friend in Hendrik, his sister’s boyfriend. When Hendrik and Annelies announce their plans to move out of the family home, Alex must face what is troubling him.
