A shy construction worker joins a community of queer rodeo-ranchers in search of their own version of the American dream. With an introduction by Roze Filmdagen
This debut feature follows the 21 year old soft-spoken Dylan, who shoulders the responsibility for his family while saving what little money he can from every odd construction job to start a life for himself. When the job takes him to the House of Splendor, a New Mexico ranch run by the handsome Pepe and charismatic Sky, Dylan is immediately smitten. What began as a day’s labor leads to a deep connection with the idyllic, welcoming ranch family, and to his own journey of self-discovery.
Rooted in the director’s own experiences growing up around the rodeo, and his explorations of the queer rodeo world in a book of photography by the same name. His visual sensibilities infuse every frame with wonder — of the beauty of nature, of young love, of a place that feels like home. A film about the power of chosen family, and the importance of creating spaces where everyone can truly, fully be themselves.
In collaboration with Roze Filmdagen, with an introduction by festival director Werner Borkes.
