Black and white sci-fi comedy in which space aliens are sent to Earth on a mission to save their planet by visiting New York’s gay dating scene.

Three aliens from the planet Zots are sent on a mission to rid themselves of romantic “big feelings” that are toxic to their planet’s atmosphere. They must get their hearts broken on Earth, where heartbreak is considered a given. Two of the aliens fall into an unfortunate romance with each other, but Zoinx meets the mild mannered stationary store clerk and above all human Jane. The two fall hard for each other, while being chased by two undercover government agents on the hunt to find the spaceship and cover up alien existence. This campy black and white mash-up of lo-fi New York City romantic comedy and sci-fi B-movie spoof is director Madeleine Olnek’s first feature-length film and premiered at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival.

The prelude to this feature is the Dutch premiere of AJ Dubler and Carmela Murphy’s short stop-motion animation A Bird Hit My Window and Now I’m a Lesbian (2024). After a mysterious girl shows up at Gray’s doorstep holding the corpse of a bird that had just cracked her window, an impromptu bird funeral changes the way Gray views herself and her lesbian identity.
