Our mission
Queer Film Festival Utrecht is a community-focused festival dedicated to showcasing alternative and underrepresented stories on screen, while creating a safe and welcoming space for marginalized groups. Based in Utrecht, we host events at various locations throughout the city, from historic sites to trendy cultural hubs.
Our mission is to provide a socially-relevant and critical perspective, offering visitors opportunities for discussion, community-building, and reflection on current issues faced by marginalized communities. In addition to film screenings, we accomplish this through diverse side programming, such as panel talks with Q&A sessions, workshops, night life, and more.
We strive to deliver both a high-quality experience by screening acclaimed queer classics that are already part of the queer canon, and a representative experience by giving space to lesser-known films that showcase queer realities, ingenuity, and rawness.
Our focus is on groundbreaking and daring experiences; we are not afraid to push boundaries, emphasizing freedom, inclusivity, safety, and originality. We celebrate and uplift queer voices, providing them with the space to be heard, to grow, and to learn. We also aim to offer a comprehensive and unflinching representation of queerness to both local and global communities.
As part of our commitment to promoting and supporting new queer film talent, we initiated The 10 Minute Challenge, QFFU’s short film competition for emerging queer filmmakers from Utrecht and its surroundings.
Our vision
In the future, we envision Queer Film Festival Utrecht growing and strengthening its network within the city of Utrecht and its surroundings, while expanding its influence across the Dutch film festival landscape. We aim to continue being a leading voice for the underrepresented, offering an even larger platform for social engagement, individual freedom, and the appreciation of queer cinema.
