General Introduction

Queer Film Festival Utrecht (QFFU) is dedicated to celebrating queer cinema and supporting emerging queer film talent. Our mission is to increase the visibility and recognition of the queer community in the film industry. Since 2019, QFFU has been the leading festival for LGBTQI+ (queer) cinema in Utrecht. However, we are more than just a film festival; we are a movement that spreads queer activism, both on the silver screen and beyond, with an inspiring fringe program to bring our message even closer.

Job Description

As the Business Director at the Queer Film Festival Utrecht (QFFU), you will be part of the management team and responsible for leading the business aspects of the festival. This crucial role requires deep engagement with the mission and values of QFFU, as well as excellent leadership and coordination skills. We are seeking a professional with broad knowledge of the cultural and queer film landscape, demonstrated experience in fundraising, and the capacity to support strategic artistic visions. As Business Director, you will contribute to the success of the festival and the queer community and play an active role in the broader society.

Your responsibilities will include:

Project Planning and Financial Strategy:

  • Collaborating with the artistic team to translate QFFU’s mission and vision into detailed project plans, objectives, strategies, and activities.
  • Leading financial planning and budgeting to ensure the financial stability of the festival.

Fundraising and Collaborations:

  • Identifying potential funders and grant providers and submitting compelling applications in a timely manner.
  • Actively seeking new sponsorship opportunities and effectively managing existing sponsor relationships to increase financial resources.

Facilitation of the Festival:

  • Practical organization of the festival, including budget reconciliation and reporting.
  • Coordinating surveys among visitors to gain insights and ensure continuous improvement of the festival.
  • Representing QFFU at meetings and events with other festivals and partners.


  • Extensive experience in the cultural and queer film landscape.
  • Proven experience in fundraising and financial planning.
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships.

The position will start as a volunteer position, but we’re working on changing this to a paid freelance position. You’ll have a big part in making this possible.
