Here, Queer and Totally Sincere (SOLD OUT!)
September 4 @ 18:30
Queer Film Festival Utrecht and Kaboom join forces once again to present a rich celebration and exploration of queerness in animation. For the third year in a row, we offer a program filled with short films from around the world that showcase the full range of possibilities in queer representation.
But What Does It Mean? — Julie Ecoffey (Switzerland, 3 mins)
A young woman receives a mysterious letter attached to a brick through her window. Intrigued and with one less tooth, she asks one of her good friends to translate the content of the letter to learn more about its author.
Ce Fruit — François Heiser (France, 7 mins)
In a kingdom, at the moment of birth each person is attributed a fruit which allows them to marry. While the exchange of two identical fruits is prohibited by law, Princess Anera lives a secret romance with the beautiful Krimen.
Starry Will — Jiajing Yin (Japan, 2 min)
One is born through chaos, the other avoids it. A film about trying to create a safe space for all.
The Prince’s Dilemma — Devin Rowe (USA, 5 mins)
Prince Philip, longing to be with a prince of his own, must decide whether to follow the traditional tale or forge his own happily ever after.
The Sketch — Tomas Cali (France, 9 mins)
Arriving in Paris, I started learning two languages, French and drawing. In an artist’s studio, I met Linda Demorrir, a live model. Like me, she is transgender and an immigrant. As I draw her outlines, it is also myself that I learn to draw.
Wooden Mirror — Sergi Sánchez (Spain, 12 mins)
Ambo is the prince of a kingdom in which the gender lines are clearly defined: all the men are warriors and defend the borders of the kingdom and all the women are nurses and heal the wounded men.
What It Takes — Kelsi Phung & Fabien Corre (Frankrijk, 1 min)
The vibrant plea of a generation of trans and non-binary people for the recognition of their rights.
Dearly Departed — Gabriella Lichtneker (The Netherlands, 3 mins)
A queer comedy horror about accidental death, interfering ghost hunters, and how joy can be found despite the hand the (after)life might deal you.
Coming Home — Britt Planken (The Netherlands, 3 mins)
A chat with various people who identify as queer and feel connected to the LGBTQ+ community. Together, these personal interviews touch upon a bigger question: what exactly is queer happiness?
Melk — Niek de Leeuw (The Netherlands, 4 mins)
A film about the expectations of and realities of being gay.
Pipes — Jessica Meier / Kilian Feusi / Sujanth Ravichandran (Switzerland, 4 mins)
Phew, there are some serious “pipes” in this short! Bob the bear is a plumber. One night he is hired to fix a broken pipe, but to his surprise he lands in a gay fetish club. Safe to say the pipe metaphor finds its (hilarious) way into the film’s narrative and style.
