Go Fish (SOLD OUT!)
QFFU x Studium Generale (UU)
September 4 @ 19:00
This screening includes an intro by and Q&A with anthropologist dr. Domi Olivieri (UU), explores the relevance of this movie, then and now. It is one of the first popular films made by, for, and starring modern queer women. We may no longer use cassette tapes and corded phones, but who among us doesn’t have a friend who makes bad romantic decisions? And, unfortunately, some lesbians are still telling other people they can’t identify as lesbians because they had sex with a man. What are the politics of Go Fish and are they holding up today? In what way was it protesting a heteronormative patriarchal society? How are representations in the film reinforcing or critiquing ideas around queerness, womanhood and whiteness? Let’s discuss together.
This screening is a collaboration with Studium Generale of Utrecht University. The conversation will be conducted in English.
