September 2 @ 12:00 – September 6 @ 18:00
The exhibition can be visited for FREE between 12:00-18:00 everyday from the 2nd of September until the 6th of September.
Just like being queer, film is not just one thing. In Framing the Beyond, Queer Film Festival Utrecht invites queer artists Noor Boiten, Luuk van Raamsdonk and Olivier Versteeg to exhibit their lens-based work in FOTODOK. Blurring the lines between art and film, the exhibition focuses on the many ways in which stories can be told and created, through the eyes of the lens.
ARTISTS’ BIO
Noor Boiten (Utrecht, 1999) is a visual artist whose work delves into the impact of digital culture and online space on gender, consumerism and authorship. Having grown up alongside the internet they consider the online environment an extension of our daily turf, and recognize the virtual contents held within it as our peers. What perspectives and idea(l)s are discoverable within this digital terrain, and how can they help us understand ourselves in a more profound way? These and other queries are explored in mixed-media video installations, consisting of sculpture, video, text, 3D-animation and photography.
Luuk van Raamsdonk (2001) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Breda (NL). He recently graduated from St Joost School of Arts & Design. Where graduated with a BA in Photography.
In his practice, he strives to reveal and understand the mystery of the world that surrounds him. Using lens-based media to support his need to investigate, question and deconstruct. He does this by combining the often historic and archival qualities of photography with a more contemporary approach.
Themes of (family) history, identity, trauma and the human-nature relationship are reoccurring within his practice.Translating them into deeply personal long term projects, characterized by atmospheric black and white imagery.
Olivier Versteeg (22) is an artist who uses the medium of photography to explore his queer identity.
“I try to look for a piece of vulnerability that I then transform into a powerful yet tactile visual language. In this way, I aim to reflect the beauty of our vulnerable selves. This is expressed in themes such as sexuality, intimacy, or masculinity. The human body plays a major role in my work. I am convinced that body language can often tell us a lot. I look for connection within my work, whether that is with myself or with others.’’
FOTODOK is a presentation institution in Utrecht that provides different perspectives on urgent social themes through visual stories.
