DoMiBo * Film Pride

August 25, 2022 @ 18:00 23:00

For one night only, the main hall of Utrecht’s central railway station is transformed into one large cinema. A movie night in combination with a (networking) drink/meet up (DoMiBo) The evening is open to everyone, but also specifically for LGBTQI+ staff of companies around the station.

A true story of the extraordinary 1984 ‘Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners’ initiative. During the British miners’ strike in the 1980s, a group of altruistically minded London gays decide to assist a working class community in Wales. But are the conservative villagers really waiting for these flamboyant “perverts”? Pride is a typical British working class comedy in the vein of The Full Monty and Billy Elliot, full of feel-good clichés, shameless sentiment and moralism. But except for a few overly ghoulish moments, it all works. The time period is convincing, the actors are excellent and the old-fashioned solidarity message is irresistible. Delightful feel-good movie with an important message: in the end we are all the same.
